Spect Clear Brake Reservoir Hose

View in Japanese

Honda Racing Corporation (HRC) uses a light greenish Clear hose
between the brake master cylinder and the reserve tank on their racing machines.
This allows the brake fluid level to be easily checked.
HRC recommends replacing this hose after every race.
Similarly,
many aftermarket custom parts that imitate HRC components also recommend frequent hose replacement.

The reason is that brake fluid molecules are smaller than those of the hose material,
so the fluid gradually seeps out through the hose wall.
Since brake fluid is highly hygroscopic
(it readily absorbs moisture from the air),
the seeping fluid draws in atmospheric moisture,
causing the hose to look as if it is “sweating.”

This issue is not limited to racing parts.
Many people assume that “brake fluid is just oil, so an oil-resistant hose should be fine” and use hoses designed for gasoline or general oil resistance that are not compatible with brake fluid.
In such cases, the hose will also eventually start to “sweat” over time.

For this reason,
it has long been common practice on street bikes to use only the black dedicated hoses sold by brake parts manufacturers for the connection between the brake master cylinder and reserve tank.

However, the hose we import and sell here is a beautifully clear semi-Clear hose — even clearer than the HRC version.
After more than two years of rigorous testing, we confirmed that it is fully compatible with both glycol-based and silicone-based brake fluids, and does not allow fluid to seep out even after extended periods. It is truly an outstanding product.

Because the hose is semi-Clear,
using colored brake fluid (such as Active brand) makes it much easier to check the fluid level inside. It also serves as a stylish accent, enhancing the overall look of your bike.

Example using green brake fluid.

Example using red brake fluid.

Unlike opaque black hoses,
this Clear hose lets you see inside, so you can visually push air bubbles toward the tank while bleeding the brakes.
It is not just a dress-up part — it is actually a very practical item that makes brake fluid changes and air bleeding significantly easier.

The image above shows an example of a commercially available silicone hose.
When a hose not designed for brake fluid is used,
the fluid seeps out and absorbs moisture from the air,
creating a “sweating” appearance. Since this moisture contains brake fluid,
it can damage the paint if it drips onto the bodywork.
For this reason, users of standard silicone hoses had to frequently wipe off the moisture or replace the hose regularly.

In contrast, our “Spect Clear Brake Reservoir Hose” prevents brake fluid from seeping out,
so you can use it with complete peace of mind.

The photo shows the test results after 5 days.
All hoses except our Spect Clear Brake Reservoir Hose showed clear signs of brake fluid seepage.

↑ Condition after 10 months of testing.
Only the rightmost hose — our Spect Clear Brake Reservoir Hose — showed no fluid loss, so the fluid level remained unchanged. All other hoses experienced seepage, causing the fluid level to drop.

↑ Condition after 2 years. All hoses except our Spect Clear Brake Reservoir Hose on the far right suffered significant fluid loss due to seepage, resulting in a large drop in fluid level.

If you bend the hose too sharply,
it may kink with a “snap” feeling. While this does not create a hole, a white crease will appear at the bend.
Therefore, please do not install the hose with the shortest possible routing.
Always allow some slack and install it with gentle curves,
making it slightly longer than the minimum required length.

When installing on the rear where the stock hose has complex bends,
or if you need to create intricate curves,
you can soften the hose by soaking it in hot water.
This allows you to shape it as desired.
Please feel free to use this technique.

Inner diameter φ9.5 mm
Inner diameter φ8 mm
Inner diameter φ6.3 mm
Outer diameter φ12.7 mm
Outer diameter φ11.2 mm
Outer diameter φ9.5 mm

The hose with an inner diameter of φ6.3 mm and length of 20 cm is recommended for nipples with an outer diameter of φ7 mm (such as those on Brembo or Galespeed calipers).
It is also the best choice when the master cylinder side has a φ8 mm nipple (e.g., Nissin) and the tank side has a φ7 mm nipple (e.g., Brembo).

This is an installation example using the φ6.3 mm inner diameter hose on the following combination:
an ABM billet reserve tank with a nipple outer diameter of φ6.7 mm (6.7 mm),
and a Nissin radial pump master cylinder with a nipple outer diameter of φ8 mm (8 mm). Since the φ6.3 mm inner diameter hose can also be used with φ8 mm (8 mm) nipples,
we recommend using the φ6.3 mm hose for combinations like the one shown in the image above.

This is the recommended hose for nipples with an outer diameter of φ8 mm (8 mm), such as those on Nissin master cylinders. It has an inner diameter of φ8.0 mm and a length of 20 cm.

↑ This is a kit with φ9.5 mm inner diameter hose,
recommended for master cylinders with a nipple diameter of φ11 mm (11 mm), such as certain Nissin models.

Note: This product is intended for competition vehicles only.
For safety reasons, please do not use it on public roads.

↑ This is an example using blue brake fluid.

When installing the rear tankless type hose, apply a very small amount of silicone grease (or similar) to the nipple first.
Using pliers, pre-open the hose clamp and slide it onto the master cylinder nipple.
Then insert the hose fully into the nipple and tighten the hose clamp securely to prevent air from entering through any gaps.

Additionally,
if you feel that the dedicated hose clamp is not tight enough,
we recommend using a wire twister to securely tighten it with stainless steel wire or similar material.

When filling with brake fluid, please be careful not to set the fluid level too high.
If the level is excessively high,
the pressure inside the hose will increase once the cap is fitted, making the cap more likely to come off.
